The laundry room is finally done! Well, o.k., I haven’t hemmed the curtains yet, but lets not split hairs.
I didn’t fully appreciate the transformation until I went on the computer and looked at the “before” photos…
Please note: the following photos may not be suitable for some viewers!!
This “project” was actually about 10 projects all rolled into 1. I started by painting all of the walls, trim and cupboards. The color I chose for the walls was Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore and I could not be happier – it’s a beautiful color. The cupboards, moldings and door I painted in BM Cloud White.
I reorganized the metal shelving and found two dark brown baskets at the thrift store, which I decided to use to keep the detergent/stain remover/fabric softener bottles. As I look at these photos, I’m thinking of painting those two baskets white and distressing them a bit. They stand out a little too much with my neutral palette!
See my clothes pin sunburst mirror? I finally found the perfect place to put it. The curtains were cheap IKEA ones that I stenciled using my wall paint and a Martha Stewart stencil. Who loves Decor Steals as much as I do?? I’m seriously addicted. I ordered these chicken feeders a few weeks ago, determined to come up with a use for them. Now they sit by the dryer collecting lint and housing dryer sheets. I stenciled the red numbers onto them.
Here are the cupboards before:
A bit of an improvement I’d say! I re-used the hardware and simply spray painted all the handles metallic.
Do you like the burlap laundry basin skirt?I used a couple of yards of burlap and stitched on some burlap webbing and then hot glued it to my basin. It looks so much better without the legs showing AND I can stash storage underneath!
I found the galvanized pots at a thrift store and stenciled them with red acrylic paint to compliment the webbing on the burlap skirt.
One of my favorite pieces is hanging on the wall beside the basin. I picked this up at a vintage sale in the summer. I absolutely love it.
The lavender is from our front yard. I have one lavender plant that’s yielded me at least 12 large bunches of lavender this summer. I figured out that it’s actually better to cut the lavender off just as it’s starting to bloom, then more grows and you can repeat this process several times! I hang it upside down in my garage to dry. Beside the smell of lavender, my favorite scent right now is my Trader Joe’s Kitchen Hand Soap…I can’t seem to live without it!
The blue ball mason jars are from an antique store in Lynden, Washington. The white containers are from IKEA. There are three of them – two of which I have my son’s and daughter’s initials on – a good place for stashing chestnuts, rocks, seashells, and all the little things that they collect!
Here’s the other side of the room, where we have a coat and shoe rack. See my vintage key rack on the wall? So much better than the other piddly thing we were using!I love this antique student art desk that’s hanging on the wall beside our shoe and coat rack. I found it at a local thrift store and did some research on it. It’s called the Chautauqua Industrial Art Desk and dates around 1919. Apparently, the desk was invented in the late 1800’s as a tool for parents to educate their children for vocations in the arts as well as promoting self-expression and play. The scroll you see at the top can be turned and reveals all sorts of instruction on shapes, cursive, nature study, portraiture, linear perspective, and on and on. It’s really very impressive!
I certainly enjoy the laundry room now – it definitely makes all the washing and folding seem a little more bearable!
