I found this pretty little table at an estate sale this summer. I liked the shape of it – especially the detail around the top.
I tried sanding the surface, but the sandpaper got all full of gunk… the paint was really sticky and gross! So I took out the furniture stripper and had at it.
When I was scraping off the paint from the bottom shelf, I noticed that the “paint” looked like it was lifting off from the wood beneath in one piece… so of course I poked it with a knife and found that underneath the paint, was some weird vinyl-like material that had been stapled onto the wood and then painted!! I ripped the whole thing off and beneath was a beautifully preserved piece of wood:
I primed it with my new favorite primer Kilz oil based spray, and lightly sanded it. I was sooooooooo excited to start painting it with my new mermaids treasure (Behr), that I forgot to take pics of it primed…
I painted three coats in a satin finish and lightly sanded and distressed.
Then I added the new Martha Stewart stencils I picked up at Michael’s (PS – if you live in Vancouver, the new Broadway store is soooooo nice!!) in grey mixed with a bit of metallic pearl. I distressed the stencil a bit after it dried along with the rest of the table.
I’m really happy with the grey and teal together!
I’m loving these new stencils…
Here she is!! I finished her off with a bit of Minwax finishing paste.
I absolutely love how it turned out! It will be hard to part with this one…
I foresee more pieces this color in my future!
Have a great day!
