I’m busy working on report cards for my Kindergarten and Grade One students this weekend {can’t believe it’s that time of year already}, so hauling out the Christmas decor and working on some Christmas crafts has been put on hold for another week or so. I did manage to carve out a few hours yesterday morning to attend The Olde Farmhouse Vintage Market {Christmas Edition!}, and it was really nice to see some fellow bloggers there and catch up a bit. I also had a belated {40th – AHHHH!!} birthday dinner with some girlfriends last night which is always a blast.
In the meantime, I thought I’d share my gallery wall. I started this project in the summer and am now calling it “finished”, although I use this term lightly, as I’ve already changed out a few things and added some other pictures here and there. Eventually, I can see the pictures extending right down to the floor, but right now that’s just a little too tempting for my two-year-old.
The hallway is long, so it’s difficult to fit the whole thing into one shot without a wide angle lens. I began by laying out some of my photos on the floor and tracing them on paper, then arranging them that way before I hung them up. Once I had the “core” photos hung, I sort of just winged eyeballed the rest. After making a few adjustments, I’m happy with how it looks.
I love how the family silhouettes turned out. The space beneath the subway art and my Sound of Music Canvas has since been filled with a black and white photo of “stones” that I had previously been hanging in the laundry room {see laundry room transformation here}.
I love this black and white photo given to me by my mom. This was a corner store one block from the house where I grew up, and I have many fond memories of visits to this store. When I was about ten, I had a cool twenty-something neighbor named Bev that used to perm my hair for me {yes… I grew up in the 80s!} and she would often ask me to go to the corner store to buy cigarettes for her – I’d get to keep the change and buy some candy! The good old days!! It’s now a heritage building that sits empty, but hopefully one day it will be revived to its former glory.
I had these canvas prints done at Bopomo Pictures for both of my children. They’ve been sitting in a drawer for the past two years {I know, I know!} and were my main motivation for this gallery wall. Pretty cute, if I do say so myself!
Here’s a photo of my grandfather on the cover of LIFE magazine. He’s pictured with his dog on the family farm in Saskatchewan, with a local politician. My mom found this when going through some boxes of photos. No one in the family knows anything about it!
Here’s a good example of why visiting thrift stores frequently can pay off… I found these sepia canvas prints of an old cafe in France for less than $10. I love them.
Some more photos of the four of us. I kept all of the frames black, with the exception of our wedding photo taken with our daughter in Hawaii. I like that it stands out a little.
The frame below I found at the dollar store (it was bright blue) and I painted it black and added some scrap book paper to the back.
Here’s the eye chart art that I made using my son and daughter’s names and birth dates. You can see how to make your own here.
I almost forgot to show you the wall sticker I added above the entrance to the kitchen… I thought it was a nice addition as these photos really are our story…
I hope you’ve enjoyed the tour of my gallery wall. As our family grows and changes, I’m sure it will too.
