It seems that so far in 2012 all the projects that I am working on (or have waiting in the wings) are being heavily influenced by everything French that’s going on in interior design and decor. I was in Thomas Hobbs a few weeks ago and spotted these french canvas bags that I loved (see my burlap version here) and started wondering where I could find more french mercantile stencils that I could DIY on fabric AND furniture.
I also saw this sign at Target a few weeks ago, and was thinking it would be great to stencil something like this…
Then I found this website: Maison De Stencils… they have tons of great french stencils! I’m using one on this end table that I discovered last August when we went to Vancouver Island to visit my sister and her fiance. I scouted out a few thrift stores while we were there, including a “Re-Store” where I found this table for $10. Doesn’t it just smack of potential?!
I fixed up some of the peeling veneer by removing it and filling the area with wood filler. With a few strokes of my magic wand paint brush… here it is transformed:
I used a Benjamin Moore in Ivory and made it into chalk paint using tile grout. 
For the stencil, I used a soft black paint that I had left over from a sample pot. 
I kept the original hardware but painted it the soft black as well. I love how it looks now!
My son is already crawling inside it and using it to park his trucks!
I’m thrilled with how it turned out!

You seen such great potential in the table. It is so beautiful now, really like the Ivory color from BM.
